Internship Opportunity

We’re seeking 1–3 interns to support marketing, outreach, operations, and event planning for Growing Together, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

This is a hands-on, behind-the-scenes opportunity to participate in the early building of a nonprofit organization focused on trauma-informed education, prevention, and systems-level change. Interns will be involved in real projects (not just busywork) and will gain valuable experience across nonprofit startup operations, community events, creative work, and more.

This is an unpaid internship and is ideal for students or emerging professionals seeking meaningful, hands-on experience.

This internship is especially valuable for anyone interested in:

  • nonprofit leadership or entrepreneurship

  • marketing, communications, or creative work

  • mental health support and advocacy

  • wellness education

  • event planning

  • fundraising and development

  • or starting a nonprofit one day

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, learning by doing, and being part of meaningful, grassroots work.

No prior professional experience required; training and guidance will be provided.

Time Commitment

  • Flexible

  • 4-10 hours per week

  • Remote with occasional in-person meetings and events in Tuscaloosa

What You May Help With

Interns will support a variety of projects across Growing Together’s programs and operations. Responsibilities will shift over time and will be shaped by your interests, strengths, and availability. Areas of involvement may include:

Creative & Communications

Supporting Growing Together’s public-facing work through social media, content creation, organizing photos or videos, light graphic design, writing support, contributing to Tuscaloosa’s Guide to Well-Being Magazine, and helping share our message and programs with the community.

Community Outreach & Partnerships

Assisting with relationship-building efforts, including outreach to local businesses, vendors, sponsors, and community partners, as well as helping strengthen connections around events and programs.

Events & Programs

Helping behind the scenes with planning and coordination for initiatives such as the Tuscaloosa Wellness Fest and the Southeast Regional Trauma & Stress Summit, including logistics, organization, and optional on-site support.

Operations & Organization

Supporting the day-to-day flow of a growing nonprofit through administrative tasks, project coordination, organizing documents or systems, and helping keep things moving across multiple initiatives.

Fundraising & Development

Contributing to brainstorming, research, and support of fundraising efforts, with opportunities to learn how grassroots organizations build financial sustainability.

Because Growing Together is in an active growth phase, interns should feel comfortable working across multiple areas, learning as they go, taking ownership of projects, and adapting as projects evolve.

-  Exposure to community organizing, fundraising, event planning, startup operations, and more
